Meet our USA Academy-Latin America director

Imagine Prep Surprise

 Bourgade Catholic High School

My name is Cathy Perez Kodak. I was formed with strong moral values: To be respectful of all people and institutions, and to be supportive through constructive criticism. With these values and my parents efforts, I studied Business Administration at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru.

My work experience was for several years in private education companies such as: Pontificia

Universidad Catolica del Peru (1994 – 2001) and Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola. Then, I gained

expertise in business management such as DPI del Peru (Coordinator, 2003-2010), Notaria

Tambini (General Manager, Quality Certificate ISO 9001 for Process Management, 2010),

Essalud - Lima (UNOPS management consultant, 2011).

In 2008 I was introduced to Lee Ann & Yasin Silva, co-founders of Hands-on Spanish Travel (HOST). My

husband Humberto Kodak and I served as one of the first host families of HOST in Peru. Hosting students from HOST’s programs filled our hearts. The love for and dedication to each of our HOST children has lasted for years, as we still maintain contact with even the earliest groups of visiting students.

In 2012 I embarked on a new and exciting journey, when I received the noble responsibility of being HOST´s Peru Director, for the programs:

- Yanapanakuy, with Minnetonka High School (IB) participates

- Peru Universitario, with U.W. Colleges, Xavier University and representatives of Kenyon College

- USA Academy, (previously known as the USA Jr. Academy Southwest (UJAS) program) that provides the opportunity for many Latin American pre-university students to be immersed into the American academic world.

I believe education is the best way for developing countries to work toward world peace. This is the

main reason that I´m with HOST; because we need ethical principles and a special global citizenry-centered approach to develop youth into adults that are committed to the well-being of the world.

The "HOST way" has a comprehensive and integrated methodology behind all its intercultural programs,

based on respect and affection. I´m really convinced that we can achieve intercultural peace if we foster global citizenship in a constructive and supportive manner and that’s what I do as HOST Director.
